GEOMETRIC LANDSCAPES
For this project we'll be contrasting a landscape, which is an organic composition, with geometric shapes. Here are some tips:
- Use the Marquee (M) to select rectangles/squares or ellipses/circles.
- Hold down Shift to make a square/circle
- Hold down Shift & Alt to stretch that shape from the center anchor point outward
- Use Ctrl + D to Deselect
- Use Ctrl + J to Duplicate the selected shape from your background
- Use Ctrl + T to Transform your new layer.
- Use exact measurements when rotating, such as 45, 90, or 180 degrees, rather than freehand rotating.
- Use Ctrl + Clicking on a layer thumbnail to reselect it's shape
- Get polygons from the internet to trace.
- Use the Polygonal Lasso (L) to trace the polygons
- OR Use the Shape tool in Photoshop
- Hit Enter to close the polygon so you don't have to try and click on the exact starting point
- Turn on your Rulers and drag Guides onto the canvas to help line things up.
- Use Clipping Masks (Ctrl + Click between layers) to selectively edit layers
- Change Blending Modes for unique effects
- Line up the horizon if possible when rotating a selection that contains sky and land
